Functional Capacity Assessments

identifying needs, creating goals
A functional capacity / activities of daily living (ADL) assessment involves a therapist observing and assessing an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living they participate in such as personal care tasks, home and garden maintenance and domestic tasks as well as driving, shopping and participation in leisure activities. The aim of the assessment is to determine where strengths and challenges in participation lie so functional limitations preventing participation can be identified.
TOTAL REHAB® therapists complete holistic and integrated assessments of function to provide a comprehensive report capturing participation using the FIM (Functional Independent Measure) as a guide. We then provide recommendations that aid in either improving engagement in meaningful daily activities or identifying the degree of assistance an individual requires to ensure they can remain supported in their home.
From an NDIS perspective, our comprehensive functional assessments address a participants identified goals and provides a framework to support goal attainment within the Core, Capital and Capacity domains of the funding scheme. This in turn forms the foundation of a plan review and is used to guide the development of a participants plan.
